Interconnected smoke alarm upgrades
Photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms fitted to meet Queensland's rules for existing homes, with a compliance certificate on completion.
Queensland's smoke alarm legislation already applies to any home sold or leased, and it extends to every remaining owner-occupied home from 1 January 2027. We fit photoelectric alarms, interconnected so that one going off in the hallway triggers every alarm in the house, positioned in every bedroom, every hallway that connects to a bedroom, and on every level. Where the roof void allows it we hardwire the interconnection; where it does not, we use a compliant wireless interconnected set instead.

5 steps, in this order
Typical visit: 90 min to half a day, depending on house size and roof access. You are told which step we are on, without having to ask.

- 02 Agree the alarm positions and whether hardwiring is practical
- 03 Install and interconnect the alarms
- 04 Test every alarm and the interconnection as a set
- 05 Issue the compliance certificate

Do I actually need to do this if I am not selling or leasing?
Every owner-occupied home in Queensland needs to meet the current interconnected smoke alarm rules by 1 January 2027. Homes that are sold or leased already need to comply now. Either way, it is worth doing before it is a deadline rather than during one.
What does interconnected actually mean?
If one alarm detects smoke, every alarm in the house sounds, not just the one nearest the fire. That is what gets a sleeping household moving when the fire starts somewhere they cannot hear a single beeping unit.
Can you always hardwire the interconnection?
Only where the roof void gives us safe, practical access between alarm locations. Where it does not, a compliant wireless interconnected set meets the same rule without opening up the ceiling.

The phone forwards to whoever is on call after hours. Anything involving exposed wiring, a burning smell or a tripped main is moved to the front of the queue; everything else gets a call back from 6:30am the next working day.
